I Love Coffee: Beaver Creek

When it comes to coffee producing countries, South Africa is certainly not the first that comes to mind. But in the sleepy, seaside town of Port Edward the Cumming family has been growing, harvesting and roasting the finest speciality coffee for three generations.

Beaver Creek Estate was established in 1984 when the first coffee trees were planted by Ed Cumming, the grandfather of the estate. From only four trees back in 1984 to over 60 000 trees today, the estate produces Arabica coffee beans that are on par with the finest in the world.

The Cumming family welcomes visitors to the estate where they offer daily ‘crop to cup’ tours outlining the distinctive flavours of the world’s coffee regions and the processes involved in creating the perfect cup. The Estate Café serves delicious meals and also affords visitors the opportunity to taste their freshly roasted coffee.

What we love just as much as their delicious coffee is Beaver Creek’s new branding. They’ve given their website and packaging a fresh new feel and we’re all for it.

A trip to this estate is most certainly worth the drive but if you can’t make it there personally, you can order any of their coffees online from www.beavercreek.co.za and they’ll send it to you before the kettle has even boiled.

Keen to test out this delicious coffee? GQ are giving away a Beaver Creek gift pack valued at R335 as part of GQ Coffee Week. Click here to enter.
